Topics: I HATE SHIDDUCHIM!!!! - Yeshiva World News

The Shidduch Site is designed to be the ultimate resource for Orthodox observant singles in the Mid-Atlantic area. Although its focus is on the Maryland, D.C., Virginia, Delaware and Pennsylvania regions, much of the content on the site is applicable to shidduch dating singles everywhere.

This site is greared towards Orthodox observant singles of all flavors, from modern to yeshivish. As a result, while most links and content are chosen specifically for the observant Jewish audience, some links and content representing the larger audience of regional Jewish singles is included. It is hoped that this content will also prove useful to observant Jewish singles, as well.

Dr. Shadman Zaman was raised in an environment that hated Israel, but his grandfather was the first ever Bangladeshi Zionist.

After a test, my teacher posts the highest marks on the bulletin board. I have gotten my name posted a few times so far, and then afterwards everyone looks at the bulletin board and comes to congratulate me. But I am worried that all this attention is making me arrogant. I considered asking my teacher not post my name, but then I figured that the recognition I get from having my name posted is helping to open doors to career and social opportunities.

The history of the Jews in Tunisia extends over nearly two thousand years and goes back to the Punic era. The Jewish community in Tunisia is no doubt older, grew up.

There’s a section on the site called “I hate shidduch dating,” or ihsd for short, where people write in little anecdotes that cleanly illustrate why they do indeed hate shidduch dating. (Are they being forced to shidduch date?) Here’s a gem, written, as far as I can tell, sans irony:

I am dating 4 girls at once now. They are all completley [sic] different (different seminaries, majors, career aspirations, etc.) I confused everyone and called two of them by the wrong name! IHSD

UPDATE: I’ve been informed that the above IHSD post was written in jest. That said, I’d still maintain that it’s a faux-jest, kind of like the kid who, fearing negative reaction, quips in a silly voice. Sincerity is for losers. Cf. DFW, E Unibus Plurum , esp. discussion of the havoc irony is wreaking on present-day culture.

I just hope you don’t hate the last one.

Unfortunately, shidduchim is really tough. I have to say that I got married only a few short years ago and the difference in the way shidduchim are done are so different.
